I'm currently reading a reprint of the World War II P-40 Warhawk Pilot's Flight Operating Manual and I just finished Into the Teeth of the Tiger by Don Lopez. As a result, my respect for World War II fighter pilots has gone way up. There must be a million ways to buy the farm in the aircraft of that era.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

For some more good reading on WWII fighter pilots, try Reach for the Sky, a biography on Sir Douglas Bader by Paul Brickhill or Samurai, a biography on Saburo Sakai by Martin Caidin and Fred Saito. Both of these books are great examples of truth being stranger than fiction. You won't be disappointed.
