Another 12 cents per gallon tax PLUS another 35 bucks for vehicle license renewal fees:

Not to put to fine about it but if the state has allocated existing funds to the highway infrastructure like it was supposed to do, we wouldn't be talking about this now. The other "rational" for this mammoth increase is because we're now driving more fuel efficient vehicles as a whole so the gas taxes that are collected are less because we're conserving more fuel BUT we now stand to get reamed for doing it...
Californian's email your reps and tell 'em NO!

Brown's response on this one is a compromise which reams us as follows:
1. Instead of a 12 cents per gallon tax increase, he proposes 6 cents instead but that can be adjusted for inflation so it may get up there anyway.
2. Instead of a 35 buck hike on your annual license renewal fee, he proposes a 65 dollar highway usage fee. It's not clear to me whether or not that fee is annual or not.
Brown's plan might have merit if it were not for the fact that we already pay the highest gas taxes in the country: a whopping 72 cents per gallon already. If cal trans can't do within their budget then perhaps we ought to get advice from those in other states that do and don't already have a 72 cent per gallon gas tax...
