I hope someone can point me in the right direction to solve this problem. My computer was working just fine until yesterday evening when my AVG anti virus detected something and I quarantined it. Shortly after that I was unable to open Applications or any files with an .exe extension. I believe the problem may have something to do with a rundll32.exe file(?). I went to a Microsoft Answers site and someone else had the same problem: ".. if i try to open any application a messege always apper ''open with" a list of programm... when i try to open control pannel .. control pannel open but when i try to open add/ remove program error appear c:\windows\system32\rundll32.exe application not found. now new message appers "this file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. create an association in the folder options control panel". I was up until about 2:30 last night trying to follow their solutions but had no good results. I'll give it a shot today and maybe I'll have better results. I ran my usual virus scan at 8:00 yesterday morning and had no problems.

Thought I might do a System Restore to see if that would help but I could not open it up to run it. I attempted 'fixes' but was unable to run even them. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated. smile

There are several areas you might explore. (knowing that a system restore may be inevitable)

While its possible you have contracted a virus, I do know that AVG is capable of False Positives and may have Quarantined a healthy file. Can you "View" the name of the quarantined file?

If you are running Windows XP you might read this:

I would also like to know the full spec on the machine in question.
