How do people in upstate New York own dogs?

It's 1 a.m. and time for one of those fundamental questions of life: How do people in upstate N.Y. who measure snowfalls in feet take care of their dogs during the winter? Our dog, Dan, is less than knee high, if the snow is several feet deep, how would a dog like that get around? 8O

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

I suppose your Dan and my Mini Dachshunds would have to tunnel to their favorite spot!

Lee, you missed the obvious. The owners take their dogs with them to Florida.

Our Shiba Inu (Taka, the one who is my avatar) will hop through snow up to 3 feet deep. He is about 30 pounds or so. Cute as h*ll, little bugger would hop, disappear in the snow, hop, disappear.....He would cover about 4 feet a hop. He will plow through anything less than a foot sniffing for god-knows-what. Nowadays he only sees snow when we go up to Flagstaff since I moved from New England, he still has his moves though 8)

It is what it is...
