Interesting story...I'm currently in the middle of a few hours of ccd exposures. I use a hairdryer for dew removal between exposures (not a big fan of heaters and interference and what not). I haven't used my hairdryer in a couple of months (thanks to the rain); it's been sitting on the floor of my observatory for some time now. Anyway, the first time I turned it on, the GFI tripped right away(it's got a built in circuit breaker). I thought 'that's odd', reset it, and it worked fine. Then several minutes later as I was sitting there watching the stars go by, I heard this rapid clicking sound. Sure enough, the GFI had tripped again. Since I wasn't running the hairdryer at the time, I figured perhaps some dew had seeped into the plug (which an inspection confirmed). I dried everything off and arranged the plug to prevent the problem again. a few minutes later, there's the clicking again finally followed with a 'poof'. When I looked at the plug this time, that's when I finally saw the little black ants streaming out of the GFI box where the wire goes into it. I guess they had finally had enough. Moral of the story? put your ALL your stuff away properly (even if you've been up all night), not just the expensive toys. Hopefully i have enough juice in my field battery to keep my portable dryer running for the night...
