Iraq Poem

We sit here on the brink of war...
teetering like children on a high wall.
As we all know...
most of the time, we do fall.

When we pick ourselves up...
we have nothing more than a scratch.
But not this time...
not with this fierce match.

I am sitting here...
watching the hour turn eight.
I wonder what has started happening...
what hate?

I think of the soldiers...
defending our countries so true.
Then it hits me...
that they're just like me and you.

Caring for myself...
quickly becomes the last thing on my mind.
How can I be selfish...
when they are the ones getting us out of this bind?

I am against war...
that much of me is sure.
However, my mind cannot pass it up...
what those soldiers have to endure.

To the soldiers of the Allies in Iraq. May the desert skies
at least provide you with some good star gazing...
