Is Atlanta losing its edge?

Atlanta has traditionally been the capital of American crime innovation. We're on the forefront of copper theft. We were the first with puppy baking. We had the first NFL dogfighting QB. We've invented every possible way of stealing an ATM (including stealing construction backhoes in order to rip the ATM out of the bank). We're absolutely the best at ripping off credit cards. I've had mine compromised twice since our return. We're right up there with St. Louis on the knock-out game. But, seriously, we don't have any cannibals? What's up?

Atlanta is also a strong contender for lead in electing clowns to congress. You've had Hank "Guam could capsize and tip over" Johnson, and Cynthia "Why didn't Bush warn New Yorkers before 9-11" McKinney.

According to this article: We're number 8! But, I think they are seriously under-counting. In most big cities the 'burbs are safe. But, we have violence from the Banjo Zone down to Macon. Gwinnett, Dekalb, Cobb and Clayton counties are all teeming hives of scum and villainy. Atlanta decided to innovate, tear down public housing, and send all the poor folks to live in apartments all over the area.

8. Atlanta, Ga.
> Violent crimes per 1,000: 14.3
> Population: 425,533
> 2011 murders: 88
> Median income: $41,631
> Unemployment rate:12.1%

Compared to most American cities, Atlanta has extremely high incidences of both violent and property crimes. The city’s 8.27 aggravated assaults per 1,000 people is one of the 10 highest rates among the country’s largest cities, as is the city’s 70.84 property crimes per 1,000 people. Atlanta also has one of the nation’s highest rates of motor vehicle theft, with a total of 5,371 incidents in the city last year. Vehicle theft likely will remain an issue throughout 2012 as well; in March almost 100 individuals were arrested as part of a single auto theft operation.
