Left-leaning academic departments...why?

Any thoughts on why academic departments/professors tend to be left-leaning?

I don't find them any more *or* less "left leaning" than any other social segment of the populace.

simple--they're not living in the real world. What college student in the history of the world has not wanted to stay in college forever? Living off somebody elses money, little if any responsibilities for your actions, I think we all get the point. College students live the ideal socialistic life. Those wanting to hang on to such a life simply don't leave. You know, college life sounds a lot like hollywood....
One of my best friends is about as far 'left' as you can get. Naturally he's been out of college for a long time now, lives with his parents, and doesn't have a job. I guess it's his way of staying in socialism...
