Local Newspaper Headlines

The local newspaper around here for many years was the Alexandria Daily Town Talk, commonly referred to simply as "The Town Talk".

Back in the 60's when I began reading it, it was a respectable paper. When my favorite team, at the time, the NY Yankees would win the Series, that was confined to the sports section. Even though I thought it was the biggest event going on in the world. grin

A number of years ago Gannett bought the newspaper & believe it or not, we get garbage such as who won the American idol contest for front page headlines. Others have been who won the Survivor show contest, LSU wins, etc. The most absurd was "She Was Hot"; a statement made by someone arrested for sex w/an underage girl.

Has this happened in any of your local papers?

Darian,
Not only has it happened to the papers in most markets (due to a concentration of ownership- consolidation/mergers, etc...) such a dilution of the news has been happening for years in other media - most notably television...

For example: how many times have you seen the evening news teaser adverts mention a tie-in to "tonight's movie," a fluff-piece that is supposed to connect the fantasy movie version to some tangential reality?

We're being entertained to death...
