Good news. I've read (but can't prove) that 95% of all Native Americans refer to themselves as Indians. Wisconsin enacted a ban on "disrespectful" nicknames due prinarily to the efforts of one woman who started in my former home town. Happily, the homies stood up to her and retained the school nickname "Indians."
It's been said before and I'll repeat it: you don't name your teams after something you don't respect. It's a way of honoring.
Except for the Banana Slugs from California, of course. That's just collegiate perversity.
