My dog collects tennis balls and--since we have some really bad tennis players in my community--he finds plenty. This weekend, when I was walking him, he suddenly darted off the sidewalk, went around behind about 6-feet of low, dense, thick shrubs, and produced a tennis ball from a backside area that he could not have seen at all from the sidewalk. I have two hypotheses:
1) He smelled the faint rubber/latex material of the ball from that distance and picked out the scent from a background of pine straw and shrubs.
2) He's psychic.
Either way, that was one of the most amazing things I've seen a dog do.
