Janet,

Seems to be alot of good advice.

It may very well wind down to

"Is the job you."
"I'm I happy with it."
" Do you beleive in what you can do, but mangement does not understand your style."

I am a partner in a firm and have a casual style. I could not work in some situations and I had to start my own firm to get the fit. I started out in a great firm that as long as the bottom line was met, Upper management left me alone. They were eventually bought out and I had to report to a retired army cornel. It was far from my style to his style. I was miserable. Reports, making problems where they did not exist, politics....it was awful and I felt trapped. After that, I work at a few firms, thinking I could fit in. But could not deny who I am.

You may not be able to change who you are to fit into a what a different management wants.

Is the job worth it? Does it fit your Goals? Can you use it to learn a different skill set and then move up, or go into something where you can set the tone?

Don't compromise on who you are, if you can get it to work great, if not, maybe it was not meant to be.

I initally took a 40% pay cut to set myself up for
living life on my terms. I now live almost exactly were I have always wanted, making money, and in the group I merged with (I started my own firm and then sold it) I told them what I would do, and got signed assurances that as long as the numbers added up, there would be no problems. I set the tone, but I also back it up with good finacials.
It's great to go the office in shorts, and take the group fishing on my boat, or to lunch after a intense cycle. We even have fun with Overseas firms from India that call us for subwork( pretending we can't understand them and then twist there mispronuciations to mean funny things.).

Be true to thyself. Anything is possible, don't get hemmed in.
