Is Homeland Security run by Frenchmen? Homeland security was a knee-jerk, hastily put together reaction to 9/11 and it's a miracle that we have been able to stop terrorism as well as we have. We might as well bring in UN peacekeeping troops to guard our borders - armed but not allowed to fire their weapons.

We keep empowering the criminals and taking away power from the authorities, so that criminals can run amok and no one wants to do anything about it for fear of reprimand.
Here in Bakersfield, cops shoot criminals, armed robbers can expect a hail of bullets from our officers. For the most part, I fully support this. We have a lot of gang activities here and I want the cops to be able to take appropriate action when they must.

My take - Bureaucratic snafu. This sounds like someone in Washington, D.C., decided to send a pamphlet out to all employees of a government department and didn't remember that some members of that department are sworn law enforcement officers. A mailing mixup shouldn't be a federal case. In many large companies, I have to spend time taking training about not bribing foreign officials. This is despite that fact that I'm not a sales weasel and I don't work abroad. Not that big of a deal.
