That seems to make a lot of sense when you think about it. I mean when you consider outer space is a hostile environment from the get go with severe temperature changes to gamma radiation bursts and exoplanets with wind velocities that make a cat 4 hurricane look like a breezy day, you likely have to be an aggressive species to want to deal with that shit anyway. Hawking may very well be right and aliens may be nomads preying on other worlds.
BTW, they finished shooting Independence Day 2 awhile ago but it won't be shown until June of 2016. Bret Spiner reportedly reprises his role as Dr Okun but I don't know how that happens because his character got killed-off in the first movie. I guess we will just have to wait and find out.
