That about sums it up for me. I've seen more than enough of driver error than you can shake a stick at. You want diver error? Come to California, and you'll see more driver error in one day than in a month elsewhere and it ain't getting any better...

Toyota finally had to look into this after the 48 year old highway patrol man with 3 other people in the car went off the end of the freeway here at 120mph+. All 4 would killed. There was enough time for someone to call in the back seat to call 911.

I drive by that spot a couple times a week.

At one time in my life I was a diesel truck mechanic. Operator error is what you claim if you want to cover your rear end but clearly there is more to it than that.

Every time I see one of these statements from Toyota I am less inclined to ever own one. The local paper puts them in the Business section, that tells you they think it is business news and not public safety news...

I don't think Toyota is totally out of the woods. Ours certainly has a lurchy drivetrain and floormats that are prone to migrate. Even our Chevy Cavalier had far better throttle, engine, and transmission response when compared to our Toyota. Of course, the rest of the car was nothing to write home about... wink

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

I remember about 15 years ago the media was trying to blame Lexus for making cars with the exact same "defect." I believe it was a 60 minutes CBS show. They spent the entire segment trying to "prove" that Lexus had faulty cars causing accidents. They went thought a lot of contortions, including rigging the cruise control and showing the excelerator pedal going in "on its own." It later turned out to be the exact same thing: drivers mistakenly stepping on the excelerator pedal thinking it was the brake pedal.
