Toyota Sudden Acceleration Revisited

While I had hoped Toyota had found a fix for sudden acceleration, an engineering professor demonstrated an apparent electronic defect inducing sudden acceleration in Toyotas, something Toyota denies. I watched the professor induce sudden acceleration on the national news but Toyota now refutes it:

I hope Toyota is right and the fix on our '09 matrix is correct...

I saw an article yesterday in the local paper that there have been 60 reports of sudden acceleration on cars that have been fitted with the supposed repair. It also mention Toyota has given conflicting information about what the on board black boxes record and refuses the share the black box information.

I have also read that the Toyota design is not fail-safe whereas most other manufacturers use a fail safe design that closes the throttle when the brakes are applied.

It's a big mess. In general, my opinion of Toyota cars has been very favorable but I think they totally blew this one. We are in the market for another car, most likely used but possible new. Toyota is not on the list.
