We saw a couple of black bears this evening down at Alligator Point. grin They were hanging out by the side of the road about 15-20 yards or so away from our car. Unfortunately, no pictures. When one went up on two legs, my wife beeped at him and Dan started barking at him so it sauntered off into the woods. Now, if we can just see some bison, a panther, and a manatee we'll have checked off all the big critters on our Florida list. wink

I haven't seen a wild bear since 1983-84 when we lived in Maine.

I have several telescopes, but none are semi-APO, APO, or in anyway valuable.

Lee,
They're probably a couple of rescues. PETA probably got to them before Palin...

The black bear population is slowly increasing in North Florida. We supposedly have a family of six that live in the woods back behind our house. The folks on the next road behind us keep seeing them, but I have only seen some scat around my place.

Good luck with the panthers. You may have to go out to the Tallahassee Museum to see those. I know a guy from Perry who said he used to see them fairly regularly when he was a kid, but that was back in the 50's.

Cool! Blue Spring is the place to go if you want to see manatee. It's over near Jascksonville on the St. Johns river. I'm not sure how far that is from Tallahasee... But it's a cool way to spend a winter morning.
