It seems to me that masks, especially well-fitted ones made of good material, do stop the spread of airborne disease. If they didn't, then why does nearly every healthcare professional on the planet wear them during medical procedures, large and small? Because they don't help stop the spread of airborne disease? I'll tell you what, Rich: the next time you have to go to the hospital for an operation, tell the surgeons you don't want the surgical instruments autoclaved, nor the room sterilized, and ask them not to gown or mask either. It's almost certain you will die after the operation from complications due to disease and infection.
Now it is true that Fauci and other health officials updated public policy recommendations as understanding of the COVID-19 virus evolved, such as the discovery that many people infected with the virus were asymptomatic, and availability of masks for frontline healthcare workers became critically low. If this is what you call lying, then it's no wonder you are constantly confused about the truth.
What's truly fascinating, though, is how Republicans are hyper-fixated on discrediting Fauci for his pandemic policies and guidance, yet have nothing to say about how Trump mishandled the pandemic. If anyone should be hauled before Congress to answer for his bungling policies during COVID-19, it's Trump. But you don't care about Trump's failures, because all that really matters is the political theater before the midterms and the distraction that Fauci provides from Republican failures. Republicans were hoping to get Fauci to say any little tiny detail they could that they could latch onto and charge him with perjury or some other minor misdeed for more political theater. Who can blame him for pleading the 5th consistently? Heck, how many times has Trump pleaded the 5th during depositions, and you didn't care that he did it, but if Fauci does it to avoid being caught by Republican dishonesty, somehow he's wrong for doing it.
