Filibuster. No filibuster. Help me understand..

The big bill just passed the senate 51-50 with Vance casting the tie-breaker.  But why do other votes in the Senate get held up because of the 'filibuster' requirement of 60 votes....  Is it that certain kinds of bills require only a simple majority while others need the 60?  If so, which kinds require what?

hi Dave: there are special rules for budget bills. Presumably to keep the government moving, even when there is disagreement between the parties.

You heard about this tangently during the debate, when a reporter says that’s some proposed amendment was not permitted by the Senate parliamentarian. In that case, the proposed amendment would’ve moved the bill out of the strict reconciliation process, and therefore would’ve made the whole bill filibuster-able.

Obviously, all kinds of pork can be included in a budget reconciliation bill. I’m sure the rules are very obscure, but more or less every pet project has to be characterized in “funding“ terms to fit. I think. 🤔
