I'm sure he thought about that but the analogy is still valid...

You are sure "he thought about it." Of course the General said it because the Germans could simply drive around the Maginot Line. A wall is effective for illegals because Border Patrol can be waiting where they will be. But do you really believe the same number of illegals will go around the wall as have been going through the wall? Really?

They will close the gaps in the wall but some will still try to go around.
