Looks like it was an aortic dissection, caused by atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease. Not a pretty way to go, unless you are lucky enough to lose consciousness pretty quickly. A warning to all of us to live a heart-healthy lifestyle and to take our statins if high cholesterol is a problem.

I wouldn't wish it on anybody, but it will be interesting to see how his sudden death shapes politics in the near term.
