CCD focusing

This may seem like a simple issue, but it has me stuck. When I remove my eyepiece and put in my new(and first), CCD camera (Orion Starshoot)in my lx90 8 in., the object is always way out of focus. I just can't seem to figure out which way to turn the focus knob to get the image in focus. The same thing happens with Bino's so I expect the answer will be the same. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Joe

Hi Joe,
Funny thing, I've been shooting with an LX90 for a couple of years and I still can't remember which way to turn the danged knob! (It's easier with my refractor where you see the draw tube go in and out so you can visualize where focus should be.) But Warren is right, software that will give you a readout is key. I use AstroArt 3 which gives both FWHM and brightest pixel (I rely on the latter). It also has a focus window where you will see stars get bigger of smaller very quickly visually with a few turns. One other thing I found helpful on my LX90 was a fine focus knob from Scopestuff--essentially a large diamater wheel that slips over the focus knob. (Of course there are electronic focusers for much more money.)
Hope this helps,
Larry

Thanks for the tips. I'll give them a try next time out.
