Monitor Adjustment

I process my astroimages on my laptop. Then I move them to the desktop for posting to Astromart Forums.

THe desktop is always darker and less contrasty than the laptop. As a result, what I post does not have the dynamic range of what I processed.

I know about adjusting monitors--but I just do not seem to have the range I need in the desktop. Does anybody know of a good (hopefully free) program to match monitor gamma or whatever?

It seems I had a monitor adjustment program when I was using Photoshop 7.0, but not in CS--or maybe it was a different program on the same computer back then.

Any other good ideas?

I think that is why I only fight this issue when I get really disgusted by the difference between the two monitors?

What should I set it to in order to get it to look good on whatever monitor I use? Or you use? Or the video projector down at the Astronomy Club when I do a presentation?

After all, I see the difference between my two monitors--How do I know what it is going to look like on yours? It is not that I just want it to look good here--I want it to look good on your monitor also? Or whatever monitor is looking at it out on the web.

Are you saying I should set up for Adobe SRGB?

And as far as matching my two monitors--would it not be easier to put them next to each other?
