Hello Everyone.

I have a filter question. I plan to shoot NGC 7000 and would like to know which filter should I use. My setup is an APM 80mm APO with a Televue 0.8x flattener/reducer, and a QHY8 one shot color camera. I currently have the IDAS LP2 light pollution filter, but want to know if an O-III imaging filter would be better. If there is another filter which would be better please suggest it. I will be shooting in Austin Tx, at a site with moderate light pollution.

Any insight is greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Joe:

I hate to jump in here since I have no experience with one shot color cameras or the filters for them. I do know from experience with my mono camera that NGC 7000 emits much more brightly in Ha than in OIII. I did an Ha + OIII combination of this region along with RGB stars and the Ha dominated the OIII. That is why images of NGC 7000 are usually rendered as red/pink.

So; and I'm going out on a limb here since I've never used a one shot color camera, I'd say try it with either your light pollution filter or an imaging Ha filter, instead of an imaging OIII filter.

Good luck.

Jim
