question about image processing software

I am interested to know what version of Photoshop I should get for astro work.

Is Photoshop CS the one?

You might try Corel Paint Shop Pro X. It's a lot less expensive than PhotoShop and has some neat tricks of it's own. You can download a 30 day free trial version of it.

I use CS2 and would never look back to CS. Too many astro-friendly features in CS2. I also use MaxIm/DL and although it takes a bit to learn it, I have found it the best for capture and pre-processing. The pre-processing is critical.
