Testing a 12" Astrograph

This is a central crop of a test object that I like to use when testing scopes at the AP observatory. Image taken with a 12" astrograph at F8 using a 16803 FLI camera. 10 minute exposure on a slightly hazy night. I processed it in MaximDL to bring out the faint stars without blowing out the detail in the core.

Here is the full frame of the 16803 chip, at reduced size.

Nice shot Roland. IIRC, the fainter of the two galaxies is about 490 MLY away.

Well thank you all for your enthusiasm for a monochrome image of a very common object grin

If'n you want to see what it looks like, here are a few images of the setup. There is another scope next to the Big Mak, a 305 F3.8 R-H astrograph, also under test.
