Which is better, slower or faster frame rates for planet captures?

Faster, the better. This is why webcams are so popular for lunar/planetary imaging.

I saw in your recent Mars post that you're using a Toucam and although what James said is true, the Toucam is limited by the fact that it only transfers data at USB 1.0 speeds. Using higher frame rates with a Toucam means you introduce data loss because the firmware in the Toucam needs to reduce the amount of data contained in each frame in order to send it to the PC.

Generally with a Toucam the highest framerate I've used is 15FPS.

I also believe most webcam imagers on this forum recommend when the seeing is really good to lower the framerate to 10FPS on order to capture the most detail.

OTOH if you buy a Dragonfly or similar camera that can do up to 60FPS via USB 2.0 then the faster the better.

Here's hoping for clear and steady skies...
