Meade LPI usb cable

does anyone know if the Meade LPI cable is a standard USB cable? I think mine is bad and need to replace it. I have not had a chance to use the LPI, but did a quick test when I first got it to make sure it worked. It did work, but I wanted to try it out on the eclipse the other night and my PC would not "see" the LPI when plugged in. It would make the "bong" noise like it recognized that a device was attached to the PC, but would "bong" again 1 second later like the device was disconnected. The LPI power light would not come on.

I can't answer your first question about whether the LPI uses a regular cable.

However, I have had the same thing happen to me. I had to "reinstall" my LPI half a dozen times. It just keeps getting lost. I do not know whether it is an issue of needing to go into the same USB port, or it gets lost when I install a different USB device after I installed it, or what--but every second or third use of the thing, I have to "reinstall."
