Parallel emulation using USB

Hello,
Newer laptops (particularly the small ones) frequently lack parallel or serial ports but often have USB ports and port-replicators that create such ports through the USB port.

Does anyone know if CCD control software for older SBIG parallel port CCD cameras work with such a USB controlled port replicator?

If it does work, would such a setup (using a port replicator that attaches via USB) offer the same (or similar) speed benefits of USB vs. parallel for image downloads off the CCD?

I don't want to buy your software, an older parallel SBIG CCD and a new laptop with a port-replicator to find out the hard way.

sorry I can't help you with all your question, but I'll tell lyou what I know for sure because I've tried a USB to Serial port replicator and it works fine. I mean that you can get all the functions working. Alas I also don't know about the downloading speed as I use the USB to serial for my focuser and for my scope control and it is hard to appreciate if there is a change of speed in these 2 functions. USB to parallel I really wouldn't know anyhting about, but I guess that if it works fine with the serial port, it should do the same with the parallel.
