DSLR Widefield: UV Filters On or Off?????

G'day there,

So, I recently bought a mount to place my Nikon D40 atop my LX200 (with wedge) for some wide angle long exposure experimenting. I am going to use my stock lenses that came with the camera. I purchased UV filters for both my 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses, but the question is, do I keep them on for astro? Will they reject any special kind of photons I'm not aware of? No effect?

Cheers,
Phil

I have had better luck taking them off. You can get ghost images of the brighter stars due to reflections from the lens hitting the inside of the filter, then going back through the lens. Other than the internal reflection issue, there is probably little difference.
