Modifying a Canon 20D into 20Da-like performance?

Hi,
I am new to the forum. I have read a lot about the discontinued 20Da and its specialized astrophotograpy usages. Since they are rare commodities nowadays, I thought if I can get a 20D body and send it in for the removal of the IR filter and additional modifications. Is it possible to achieve the same or better performance upon modification? What additional modifications do you recommend in addition to removing the IR filter?

I have heard that the modified cameras are a tad more sensative in the Ha than the 20Da. If your are considering a mod I would get a 400D or later to mod because these have a lot lower noise problems than the early Canons. My 2 cents worth.
