While I was waiting for Mercury to make an appearance last evening, I pointed my Canon EOS Digital Rebel DSLR camera and 18-55mm Canon EF-S lens in the opposite direction and took some shots of the Earth's shadow and the Belt of Venus. Here's one of them.
The ruddy Belt of Venus is so named since Venus sometimes inhabits that region of the sky. It is also known as the antitwilight arch. The color is a result of the reflection of light from the rising or setting sun by the Earth's atmosphere.
