So, my wife and I were out on our deck with the Yorkies and were distracted by a pair of swans with five new babies in the pond behind our house. The oldest Yorkie disappeared in the excitement. We scoured the neighborhood looking for her and finally found her across the street on the porch barking at the Lab inside.

While we were searching, my wife was next door on the neighbor's lower patio when she happened to look up over her head and saw this:

The neighbor called around and found a local beekeeper who scooped them into a box and took them away. It was a fascinating process, took about 3 hours, total number of bees was estimated to be 30,000, number removed with the queen 20,000. Here's a crop:
