Northern lights

Greetings from 70.5 north. I'm on a point of land about 8 miles south of Scoresbysund in east Greenland. When the sky is cloudless the auroras are spectacular!!

The aurora go on most of the night, starting and stopping but every once in a while they really blaze away. The NOAA POES website rate these between 4-7 with 10 being the best. I hope to see 8-10s before I go home.

These are the first practice shots. It is very dark here and it's difficult to see the horizon to level the camera. I would like a wider lens but my 24mm is the widest I brought. Baggage weight is a problem here for the helicopters.

Enjoy - Cal

Note the Pleiades just to the right of center.
