Here are a couple of bona fide grassroots organizations that are gearing up for the oil spill to reach Florida's Forgotten Coast. The Wild Mammal Association has traditionally been involved in rehabilitating injured wildlife, but they are gearing up to clean and rehabilitate birds and other rescued wildlife.

The Gulf Specimen Marine Lab is a small aquarium that is traditionally dedicated to educating school kids and visitors, collecting marine life for academic researchers, and rescuing sea turtles and the like. They are launching a Noah's Ark project to protect marine life so that it can be reintroduced after the spill has been cleaned up. They are having to quickly switch their aquarium tanks over from Gulf Water to a more expensive filtration system like an inland aquarium using sea salts, etc., to recreate the environment.
