Type of pier

Posted By Robert Edwards

I am about the build a 10'X12'observatoty. I am not sure which way to go with the pier.
Atop the pier will be a CI700 mount with a C11.
The pier, from gound level to the top of the pier will be about 68".

My questions are,
Do I make the pier with cement only, or a cement base and bolt a steel pipe to the base?
What size should I make the pier?

Thanks to all for your time and help.

Weights

Posted By Robert Edwards

Help please,
Can someone tell me what weight, I would need to buy for use on my CI700 with a C8 mounted and a ST 237 installed some of the time.
I bought this mount used. It came with two 25LB weights. I can not get it to balance with one 25lb, so need something smaller.
Also where would one buy weights.
I am new to this hobbie.
Thanks for any help.

Weights ( how much)

Posted By Robert Edwards

I have a CI700 mount. I have put a C8 on the mount for now.
I will be putting on a ST237 camera also. The mount used when I got it, came with two 25# weights.
It this point I can not balance the scope due to the 25# being to much.
I don't know what weight to get. I sure could use some help with this ,so that I can start using the scope.
Thanks for any help,
Robert

TV or AP Diagonal

Posted By Robert Edwards

As of now I use a 2" Celestron Diganol on a C8, but will be getting a C11 soon.
Need some advice about getting a AP or TV 2" diagonal. The price for the two is about the same, so which one?
Thanks
Robert

M31 first try

Posted By Robert Edwards

Hi to all,
This is my first ever astro picture. I shot this image with a Nikon D70 and AI200mm lens, non Digital lens, so this would be about a 360mm digital lens. I have no idea of what I'm doing, just gave it a try. This picture was croped about 50%. Redish color in left top corner was caused my my red flash light.
One of the things I was like to know is, guiding of the CI700 or is this good for a 606 second exposure?

No NR
ISO at 800
Only sitting was BULB
Shot was 606 seconds
Mount-CI700 no guiding

Thanks for looking and any help.

My CI700 with custom work

Posted By Robert Edwards

Hi to all,
This is my first post so not sure what I'm doing.

Now that I have a digital camera I can show my CI700 and the custom work I did.
Like everyone else with a CI700, the DSC pins were a pain. The covers were machined I my shop and the results have been great. I no longer have any trouble with bent pins.

The C11 CF is new, what a difference from my C8.

G-11 coiled cord??

Posted By Robert Edwards

I have not tried this, but a friend said he does it to all his cords.
Get a small dowel rod. Use a rubberband to hold one end to the rod, wind the cord around the rod, heating as you wind.Use a hair dryer on high, heating the cord (as warm as you can get it without damage to cord). When finished put rubberband on end and, let it set over night.
Hope this is of some use.
