Expanse Eyepieces

Posted By James Morris

Has anyone had any experience using these eyepieces? Orion states that they have a 66° apparent field of view. How well would they perform in a f4.7?

Which eyepiece provides the greatest light transmission at higher powers such as the 4 - 6 mm range? If this has already been addressed in posts sorry for redundancy.

Orion

Is it possible to see the Horsehead with a 8" dob from a moderately light polluted area. Have no problem with M42 without filters, but would filter assist in this condition?

Primary to secondary mirror

My question is this. Presently I have a f/5.9 mirror. I would like to go to a f/6. Would I have to relocate the focuser? If my numbers are correct the difference between the two would be around .799 inches.

M 13

Posted By James Morris

I recently had the enjoyment of attending the BFSP. I noticed that the views were not nearly as bright as they were last year, when I was there in August. The view of M 13 last year looked very bright, each star very bright whereas this year they were not nearly as bright, what are the probable reasons for this?

Aurora from Raleigh, NC

Posted By James Morris

Steven,
My family also got to see the red aura, as they were leaving the house. They said it was the best they ever saw. I did not get to see it but have seen many in my earilier years living in a very rural area. Winter provided many views of reds and greens shimmering through the evening, a sight one will never forget.

Thanks to all for the thoughts about the Horsehead Neb. My son and I will be going to Cherry Springs soon to see Orion, and hopefully we will see it with our 8" dob.
