Rotational periods and image scale

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Hello all,
I have a question regarding how long I can image before rotational smearing occurs. Is there a formula you can apply for each planet? Does the image scale you capture at have any affect on this? (i.e. using a 2x Powermate or 4x on my C11.) How about a reference for rotational periods for all the planets? I ask because the seeing is rather bad here in Omaha Nebraska and I can only use a few frames from each capture. sad
Help a brother out...

Kodak versus Sony CCD chips

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Hello all,
I hope I'm not posting a ridiculous question, but I'm willing to make a fool of myself in my quest for knowledge. I am fully aware of the difference between "full frame" and "interline" CCDs, beyond that, what are the major differences between these makers chips? My eyes seem to notice a difference in the quality of the pictures produced by Kodak chips (meaning, better). Would/could this be a function of the electronics/processing technique?
Your comments would be greatly appreciated.

HELP! Gain too high during capture...

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Hi folks,

Well, I really did it this time! On the best night I've had this apparition, I decided to switch my toUcam settings from RAW mode to non-RAW. Since I haven't used this setting before, I was not sure of the settings to use. The AVIs look good...until I process them! Way too much grain. I tried lowering the contrast in Registax befor applying wavelets but to no avail. Is there any way I can salvage this information?
Any help would be appreciated.

My humble 1st Solar/Transit photo

Posted By Bryan Gumm

I took this while showing numerous passers-by the transit. I am quite pleased with my 1st attempt at a solar shot. Just got my filter for AEGENA products 2 days ago!

Shot with a toUcam PRO through a Stellarvue 102EDT with Baader film.
50 frames stacked with Registax4 grin
(Sorry about the dust mote trails!)

Enjoy!

Message Inbox

Hi all,

There seems to be an issue with my Inbox.
My e-mail is giving me notification that there are messages, but they do not appear in the AM Inbox. Therefore, I have no means to reply.

Your attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated as I am currently trying to sell an item.

Thanks,

Lumenera Camera using Registax. Please Help

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Jim,
I have had this error as well when I tried to register and stack AVIs that I separated into Lum and RGB in QFocus. My ToUcam was changed to RAW mode via the TWIRG eeprom flash. It processed the color AVIs but the Lum channel came up with the same error.
Let me know what you hear.

Lumicon refractor easy guider

Luis,
I don't know what your budget is, but have you seen the "Targetron" (wow, it sounds like some 50's sci-fi movie weapon-of-doom!) made by Paul Van Slyke. He is having a sale on all his equipment right now. I just LOVE my microglide focuser. The construction is first rate and is engineered for perfection. You'll do well considering this piece.

Mercury transit, stop down app?

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Methinks you should make the size that fits between your secondary and the corrector plate's retaining ring. This will also have the effect of pumping your f-stop up to crazy levels. Will you be using a reducer? If you have the chance try looking at the moon tonight through the stopped-down scope to see what I mean. Unless you have a computerized mount or an incredible grasp of your setting circles you might have a difficult time locating the contact points with such high magnification.
I broke down and bought a 4" refractor to augment my C11 for just this reason.

I'll be thinking about you tommorrow!!

Cheers,

Bryan

Two Mercury transit images

Posted By Bryan Gumm

Paul,

Those two are top-notch. Very nice focus on the Ha shot.
Can't wait to see what other gems you can cull from all that data!
Glad to hear it was a nice day, all around.

Cheers,

Bryan
