Need advice on apo refractors

Hey guys, you know more about this than I do so I have a couple of questions: First, I own 5" and 10" sct's. and am interested in selling both and purchasing a 4" APO. Let me know the advantages. (I know the disadvantages - less light collection than my 10") I live in a fairly light polluted suburb (mag. 5.0 zenith on good nights and was going to build an observatory for the 10" since I hardly ever use it now since it's a pain to haul out and set up. Thanks for the input. Oh, I don't mean to offend any ladies out there so your input is also more than welcome. Thanks. 8O

Plastic storage shed

Has anyone checked out the storage shed on "thinkingoutside.com" 8) I am seriously considering using this as an observatory (7'X 11'deluxe model.) The roof is held on by a few thumbscrews and can be lifted off and set on the other roof section. $698.00 at sam's club, floor included.

Alright people, I want to know your opinion. I've had an SCT (10") since 1993 and live in a light polluted area (mag. 5 on a really good night). I just bought a 4" APO refractor. I want to know what I can expect in performance. (I know light gathering won't be what I'm used to). I've also owned a 5" SCT which I sold to buy the APO and I owned a 80mm Achromatic scope, which i have also sold. You APO nuts out there, please tell me I did the right thing. I still have the 10" and am thinking about building an observatory for it and the 4" APO. What do you think? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks,

CG5 GT capacity

I noticed that Celestron has added an 11" OTA to the CG5 mount. I think this may be a little too large for the mount to handle, although they also have a 10" Newtonian mounted to it also. I plan on Mounting a 4" refractor on mine. Anyone have any experience with this mount?

Desktop computer in unheated observatory

I was just wondering if anyone here keeps a desktop computer in an unheated observatory and uses it in sub-freezing temperatures and if this is a wise thing to do. (this is probably why we use laptops because we can take them inside, but a desktop is so much cheaper!)

white and red Cardinal

There has been a white and red Cardinal hanging out at my feeder this week. At first I was baffled as to what type of bird this was but after viewing it many times it IS a cardinal. It's about 60 to 70% white with the underbelly almost completely white. Has anyone seen one of these? I'll try to photograph it this weekend.

I have one of these scopes and am impressed at the level of color correction in such a fast doublet. Does anyone have any experience and/or opinions about this scope?

The last few times here i've placed my ad and it doesn't show up. So i renewed my support for 3 months and tried to place an ad and the same thing happened???

meade lx200 vs. celestron cge

The Celestron isn't selling the CGE like Meade sells it's LX200. I'll bet many More Nexstar 11GPS' are sold than the CGE. If you are considering astrophotography a dob won't do. People seem to prefer the fork mount over the German Equatorial. If you've never tried astrophotography before and are considering long exposures you would be better off with a faster 4" refractor on a sturdy mount. (less need for guiding and more room for error with a shorter focal length scope). But, to get back to the original question you really can't go wrong with either (although others will tell you that you can), just be sure you can set them up easily - they are all fairly heavy scopes. (I own a 10" LX200). Hope this helps.

Meade product line

The LX200 has been around since 1992 or 1993. (i know, I bought one in 1993 and still have it). The only thing I see happening are software and maybe some slight equipment upgrades. an LX200 as well as an LX90 will be usable for years. If you plan on astrophotography get the LX200, if not an LX90 will meet your needs quite well. Good Luck. BTW anything over an 8" is a pain in the butt to set up, beleive me, I hardly ever set up my 10" and this was the reason that I also bought a smaller scope. An 8" nexstar GPS and an LX90 are about the same size.
