What is this?

Posted By James Robinson

An immature wood duck? I didn't get a good shot, it took off as soon as I got the camera out. Colors remind me of a wood duck.

Discovery & Parks mirrors

Posted By James Robinson

Hi, I've been without a reflector for a while and would like to remedy that. I've made several dobs and will likely go that route again, probably an 8" f/6, as light as possible.

I would like to use a premium mirror like a Royce but might not have the budget for that. Stepping down a notch how do Discovery and Parks mirrors stack up? Discovery mirrors are made at their site, I'm not sure where Parks are made now. Any opinions positive or negative appreciated.

Rating disappearig "buyer"

Posted By James Robinson

I posted a nice c5 package about 10 days ago and had several "I'll buy it" hits within the first hour. The first person had no ratings but seemed genuine enough and even left a phone #. That was the last I heard from him, left 2 emails and a phone message. The person continues to post here in forums just can't be bothered to let me know he changed his mind, or whatever. I feel zero stars is harsh but on the other hand how hard is it to let a seller know that you changed your mind? Would future sellers want to know about this?

Geese and bufflehead

Posted By James Robinson

I was trying to get a shot of the bufflehead, which is just about impossible, when the geese swam through the field of view.

Taken with my new TV60, which I'm enjoying a lot.

Snowy Egret

Posted By James Robinson

Just returned from vacation in Canaveral, Florida. This snowy egret was working the beach. D70 with Sigma 70-300mm APO. This inexpensive lens worked very nicely.

Viero nest

Posted By James Robinson

You can see one of the parents peaking out. Note I did not disturb this bird in getting this shot, it decided to build a nest about 10 feet from a nature boardwalk.

Another shot from vacation, this one a tricolored heron at the Merritt Island NWR. This shot taken with a D70 + TV60 combination at prime focus.

Drowsy Night Heron

Posted By James Robinson

I took a paddle around the local pond today and was surprised to find this night heron taking a nap. Rare to find "exotic" birds so close to the house. I never saw the other leg, he napped one legged for at least an hour.

SUGGESTION FOR SCREENING OUT LIGHTS

Posted By James Robinson

Hi,
I have made 6X6 ft panels out of pvc pipe and black fleece blankets. The blankets are light, cheap, and excellent at blocking stray light.
