Jerry, I had the JMI focuser, and although I liked it, it just added another thing to mess around with, setup, takedown, get broken. So I sold it. Don't get me wrong, it's an excellent addition if you really love to mess with the focus. I had no troubles using a f/6.3 focal reducer with it. There are a few ways to lock the mirror on the SCT's, and they are posted somewhere on the forums I think... involves drilling screws into it I think.

Same here, I finally collected most of the things that I really want and I'm happy with my setup for now smile I've been looking through the forums briefly each day, but no more really. Soon I'll get the insatiable itch to buy again though...LOL.

Hi Alden, I've been reading up on both types of batteries to see if I could find an answer, but I don't see why they'd be a problem. I'd go with NiMH batteries mostly because NiCad batteries perform terribly when cold. If you are unsure, give Meade a ring and ask. Make sure you get the name and extension of the person you talk too...that way when your scope explodes after they told you it wasn't a problem.. you'll have something to go on wink

I can't remember the model #, but I went to Walmart and used their battery locator. It pointed me to a Kodak 2.6V I think... may wanna try Walmart?!

Peter, I'm no expert by far, but having owned both, I do know a few things about them. Celestron's FASTAR tubes (not all are capbable) have a removable secondary. It is a specially designed front corrector plate and secondary to be able to remove it w/o tools. Meades just don't have the capablity to be removed easily. As for an aftermarket? I doubt it. It' be a very serious undertaking, although some enterprising person may attempt it someday. The last question I have no idea.

Polar Alignment

I'd mount the finder next to the camera ifyou can. Just use regular ring mounts that can be screwed down. Losmandy sells some I believe as does Orion (I THINK). There are also a few dealers on Amarts homepage that sell rings/mounts. Make sure it's aligned with the mount well and then you can fine tune it with the 3 point rings just like when it's on a telescope. That should work ok. As to get a drift alignment, you'll need a finderscope that can 1) use high power eyepieces and 2) need one that can accept a reticle eyepiece. A standard 9x50 finder isn't near enough to do a proper drift alignment (at least I wouldn't think so). I'd go with a 80 or 90mm short tube as your finder. Good luck!

I was thinking of something along the same lines. A good friend of mine is in a wheel chair, and his electric model has a MASSIVE battery that scoots him down the road at a cruisin' 10MPH... was thinking if I could set that up somehow it'd be a nice strong/reliable source.
