Got back up to Utah again right before Christmas. These are in Capitol Reef.
A little bit of snow on the ground, but the redrock was as red as ever. smile

Microscopes?

Hi folks.
Our friend Bob suggested that I get a stereomicroscope,
so as to examine my collection up close and personal. smile
I have plans to order one soon. In the meantime I've been
attempting to use a small 30x handheld lens, with limited success.
I'm wondering if anyone here has any experience with microscopes and meteorites.

Specimen Labels

I've noticed some specimens purchased come with an identification card. And some don't.
I'm thinking about getting some cards printed up for just that purpose.
Then again, I could probably make my own labels somewhat cheaper.
That would mean another "learn by doing" experiment in my computer, though. :S
Has anyone else here tackled that? Any suggestions?

Wow! My new 20x/40x stereomicroscope arrived today,
and I just had a quick introductory session. Cool! grin
Looked at a variety of specimen types, all of which were interesting,
but some that looked plain to the naked eye really came alive with a little magnification! 8O
It has an upper and lower lighting system, which will
be handy for backlighting thin slices.

Full moon sinking into the Pacific

I stopped on the way to work Friday morning
and took a few shots of the beautiful full moon
hovering over the ocean near Santa Barbara.
