How to buy a filter?

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

There's NO particular advantage, only for comfort issues...
When you use the filter on other area than the eyepiece, it is more comfortable, since you'll be able to switch eyepieces without have to screw/unscrew the filter constantly... that's all. wink

Re: Cleaning Optics

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Mike, we are all aware of how to clean them... wink but...

What amazes me is that everybody here suggested for you to leave it alone, and you still went ahead and decided to clean it, WHY the initial question then?...
(you have no idea how many people screwed up their scopes that way...)(hopefully your scope collimation has not been messed up)

Re: Always a beginner

It only takes one NEW variable thrown into our existing equipment to take us into "Beginner Mode"
It seems you had quite many of them (new variables) at once... that would be "Beginner Mode EXTREME!" wink 8)

Glad to hear your issues are getting straightened out, and yes, the AP Mounts are SWEET! 8)

Meade DS line

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Andrew, it is not so much the optics, but everything else that goes with it that will make it a disappointment...

I would steer away from such package and look into the Orion line of scopes, which I'm sure will give you a much better result for your money.

And please forget about GOTO for that little money... concentrate in a good overall package without the bells & whistles, you'll be happier in the end.

Check this one out, I would recommend it... (ATWB - NEW)

And also, you can find it here... (USED, in good condition)

Is this a good star chart for Telrad?

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Hello Casey! 8)

Not sure if you are aware, or if you have seen them yet, but there are many resources online with FREE Telrad Star Charts that you could get started with...

Check these sites...

Goto problems...HELP!

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

Chris, I'm not familiar with your mount, but both, Jeff & Jim, are correct, it sure sounds like your mount thinks it is in the Southern hemisphere... please check your documentation and see if the is a section in which you can adjust this...

Let us know, and good luck! 8)

Check here..., they have a good selection of weight balance kits...

I also use a metal dew shield, which helps a lot when you have a back-heavy scope... 8)

EZ Finder II or Telrad

Posted By Ivan Gastaldo

IMHO, all you'll need will be a Telrad and a good set of charts... 8)
(I don't see why you would need a magnified finder in addition to your Telrad... once you have your Telrad & your scope aligned, you should be able to find pretty much anything without it being magnified, but if you must, you could have them both...)

But of course, this is just my opinion, and YMMV.

I much rather see stickers than NO stickers...
Beginners need all the help that they can get (we've all been there), and since manufacturers do not know WHO will be using, and how much knowledge they have of it, they simply choose to cover their "buttocks" and stick them all... 8)

Sticker on a Ladder:
"CAUTION: Climb ladder with both hands..." 8)
