Parallax Instruments

Posted By Paul Maxson

I guess this question was inevitable. Does anyone have any experience with Parallax Instruments? Since I can't get a 12.5" DK OTA from Royce anymore I'm looking for alternatives. This is strictly a planetary scope so a RC is not an option. I want to stay away from corrector plates as well. Besides a Mewlon 300 does anyone have any other ideas? How about European companies. I kind of want to avoid Newtonian's as well. I have looked at this company:

Thanks!!

Celestron Customer Support Is Outstanding

Posted By Paul Maxson

I have had wonderful luck with Celestron's customer support. After I upgraded the firmware I had some tracking issues. They nailed it down on th first try and I was back in business!!

Anyone Getting A Scope For Xmas?

Posted By Paul Maxson

I'm hoping to get a C11 shortly after Jan 1....to supplement my C8. To think, last year this time I had nothing, and last night I obtained my 78th image of Mars since July 4!! smile

IR blocking for Jupiter and Saturn?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Alan,

I have removed my IR blocking filter when I image Jupiter. I will when I start imaging Saturn again as well. I haven't found anything bad about not using it and the image is brighter which gives me more latitude for brightness adjustments. Someone in one of the Yahoo groups suggested removing the filter for Jupiter and Saturn.

Dust storm on Mars

Posted By Paul Maxson

Joe,

There is indeed quite a nice little duststorm going on right new. The picture in the link you provided is from Don Parker. He shot his image at almost exactly the same time I shot my first image. I am including two links, one is of the 4 days I have photographed the storm and the other is to my December Mars images. Check out the images on Dec 12,13,14,15 for details on the images. The seeing here has been pretty bad so detail on Mars is limited, but the storm is kind of overwealming detail and shows up pretty nicely. All of my images were shot with a C8.

It's ironic the Mars would wait until it's less than 10" before the dust storm starts....**chuckle**

Saturn Very Close to Opposition, 2003/12/31

Posted By Paul Maxson

Dave,

Stands to reason that Saturn is at opposition....it's cloudy and threatening rain out here in the desert near Phoenix, AZ. We had a huge thunderstorm at the precise moment that Mars was in opposition last summer as well!! LOL!! Seems we are only in a drought out here when the planets are not in opposition...hehe

A whole day on Jupiter

Posted By Paul Maxson

Bruce,

That is a project that looks like something fun to do...I can't roust myself out of bed for an all-nighter or I'd try. But later in the year....

Very nice images BTW
