I am just appalled (probably too strong of a word) that you would want Jonathan Turley "investigated by an ethics committee at the George Washington University for disseminating false information without verifying it first" simply because he thinks these companies are. He's entitled to his opinion without fear of losing his job, which can neither be verified or proven without any doubt.
Turley, although he did mention other companies, pointedly emphasized Target as being the latest appropriate recipient of the wrath of the right wing boycott outrage with the New York Post and Fox news (which basically and repeatedly aired the Post story) as his sources for the 9 billion dollar losses which, as I've noted, were cumulative and were already in motion before the boycott began.
The real and only joke here is that one can possibly think nine billion in lost revenue in one week occurred because of some half-baked boycott that hadn't even taken off the ground yet. Turley either knew or should have known the latter and should have known the credibility of his sources is suspect at best.
That said, when I quoted my CNN link with the words, "The fact is..." according to the corporate execs and industry analysts that do know better along with essentially more of the same from your CNBC link, it's EVIDENT that the losses underway were independent of the upcoming and nonsensical boycott and that is verifiable with the only equivocation being the overall effect of the negative media attention on more current stock prices.
Finally, here's Turley's take on Target in his own words from his own article:
"Target is being boycotted over its Pride line of merchandise, including selling “tuck-friendly” swimwear for children, among other items. The company is being slammed for hiring a transgender artist, Erik Carnell, who is famous for his Satan-loving products, to create the line. Target is now down $9 billion. "
As we know, Target was already down 9 billion and not from the boycott.
Turley goes on to claim, which I'm skeptical of, that he does "support Target or companies selling pride products or items geared toward trans customers." He immediately follows that statement with : "However, some of these campaigns appear more than efforts to reach new pockets of consumers. Putting aside those with clear prejudices against a given group, some consumers are reacting to campaigns that appear to push political or social agendas rather than products."
In other words, he blames the companies just as he did in the same article in regards to Disney: "As shown by Disney and its ongoing fight with Florida, corporations are now committed to political and social reform campaigns. While companies once eschewed political or social causes that would alienate consumers or damage their brands, executives are increasingly tying their brands to identity politics and controversial positions."

Just look at the title of his article which pretty much says it all while he attempts to keep his clothes on all nicely straightened and starched as he essentially carries the water for the right wing front. He makes me want to vomit.
So companies behave in an ethical and socially responsible way, SO WHAT! That's what they ought to be doing.
On edit, I had also stated, immediately following my opinion about Turley being investigated by an ethics committee with, "If not that, then, at the very least, he ought to be publishing a retraction as should Faux and the tabloid New York Post."
