Straight Wall

That's one of the few images I have seen where you can actually see the elevation difference across the wall!! Very nice!!

Plato

Posted By Paul Maxson

Mike,

Actually this is the crater Archimedes. I think it is more of a challenge to get craterletes in this crater than Plato. Also, one suggestion...if you convert the images to greyscale you get rid of the yellow fringes. There's not much color on the moon anyway.

Nice image!!

Need your help! How to rotate a fits image?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Paint Shop Pro will allow rotating images to a .01 degree. Unfortunately PSP doesn't support .fit files. So it's a good news/bad news situation....

Toucam first light

For Jupiter and Saturn I use similar settings....

Gain about 30-40%
Gamma 0
Saturation 100%
I shoot at 10fps.

For the Moon:

Similar, but I set gain to 0.

For Saturn I typically go 4 minutes, Jupiter about 2 minutes, 1 if seeing is good. The moon only needs a minute.

I use the K3CCD tools for capturing and adjust the exposure and brightness level to give an intensity level of 120-140 on the little bar chart in K3CCD.

Set the (I forget the term, someone else can help here) color to manual (not outdoors or indoors), then after you get the object, set it to automatic for a few seconds and then uncheck the box.

When you process the moon, convert the image to greyscale for better reproduction.

Good luck!!

Gain settings and ringing effect

Posted By Paul Maxson

For Jupiter I typically set my gain to 30-50%. This image, it was set at about 40%. I have learned to set saturation to 100% and keep gamma at 0. I set K3CCD brightness at about 130-140 and lower the contrast in Registax to between 80-90% before saving the processed image.

Tell me what you think?

Posted By Paul Maxson

Floyd,

I certainly think you handled it correctly. In fact I would wish more companies handled things like this like you did...unlike a certain company in a town south of Phoenix that shipped me a C11 with a chip in the corrector plate and when I returned it I got 90% of my purchase price and a "take it or leave it" attitude. I would do business with you in a heartbeat (as opposed to, well...you know...).
