Wind Holwing and Poor Seeing

Posted By Paul Maxson

Jim,

Pretty awesome image considering the conditions!! Lets hope it's clear and calm this weekend for the triple transit.

It's going to be fun to see who submits results first to different places like spaceweather, etc. smile

Bob,

Very nice!! Did you resize the image smaller? That's quite sharp.

My Triple Transit...

Ivan,

That's much better than mine. It was quite a thrill just being out there trying anyway. It was a view I'll remember for quite a while.

Can someone tell me what I saw?

Dannon,

You caught the very rare Triple transit on Jupiter. Three of the dots are moon shadows and the 4th is the moon Ganymede. Lots of us were trying to get decent images of it and most, like me, had terrible seeing. Nice way to break into digital imaging, huh?? smile The next triple transit won't happen until 2013.

I think you got the crater MAUROLYCUS. Looking at the Virtualmoon atlas, it looks about right.

GRS transits

I love a program called Meridian. It gives you GRS transit times, as well as satellite and other data. It's also free!!
