The Trump movement in a nutshell

Posted By James Brown

Greg Shaffer said:

I couldn't agree more....

Great post by Miss Darla Anderson...

"We don't care if the guy swears... or how many times he's been married...or who he voted for, or what his income tax return shows. We want the problems fixed. Yes he's an egomaniac, but we don't care. We know he's not a racist, or bad to women, or all the other things the liberal media is trying to label him with. We know he's raised a good family, and that says a lot about him.

The country is a mess because politicians suck, the Republican Party is two faced & gutless, and illegals are everywhere and Muslims are openly trying to hurt this country and make the civilized world adjust to them. We want it all fixed!

We don't care that Trump is crude, we don't care that he has changed positions, we don't care that he fights with Megan Kelly, Rosie O'Donnell, and so many of the elected establishment. We don't care that Rubio, Cruz, Ryan, the Bush's, and so many other top old and new Republicans refuse to endorse him for their own selfish reasons, and we know what they are. We don't care that he doesn't know the name of some Muslim terrorists, we don't care that he tried some businesses that didn't work out.

This country is weak, bankrupt, our enemies are making fun of us, we are being invaded by illegals, we are becoming a nation of victims, where every Tom, Ricardo and Hasid is a special group with special rights to a point where we don't even recognize the country we were born and raised in, AND WE JUST WANT IT FIXED. And TRUMP is the only guy who seems to understand what the people want.

We're sick of politicians, sick of the Democratic and Republican Party. We're angry about the Iran deal, the budget, treatment of Israel, military weakness, lobbyists, special interests, overpaid politicians with their self serving bills and back room deals, trade deals, loss of jobs, manipulated economic numbers, businesses fleeing, and even the phoney pay for play Clinton Foundation.

Americans are no longer going to be fooled, and the movement is out to change the direction we're taking. Trump may not be a saint, but he doesn't have lobbyist money holding him, he doesn't have political correctness restraining him, and all you know is that he has been very successful, a good negotiator, he has built a lot of things, he's flexible, and he's also not a politician. And he says he'll fix it. And we believe him because he is too much of an egotist to be proven wrong or looked at and called a liar.

Public service has become elected greed. This may be our only chance to have a non-politician, despite his flaws, try and correct the mess, at least for 4 years. We must take the shot, because the consequences of putting Hillary Clinton in office are frightening. There is a tidal wave happening, and its going to overcome much of what's happened to this country.

Greg:

I don't care if Trump spats with Rosie O'Donnell either, but why the hell won't he endorse Paul Ryan and John McCain? What's up with that. The only answer is petty vindictiveness. Is this how he intends to govern too? Trump is actively pushing educated moderate white republicans like me away. Two weeks ago I was ready to vote for him and deny it to my liberal friends. Today, I can't imagine voting for him. Is it so hard to even pretend to be presidential?

Time to say "Goodbye"

Posted By James Brown

Maurice Clark said:

Hi All,

After 16 years of working in and touring around your country, it is finally time to say "Goodbye". I retired 6 weeks ago and after driving over 10,000 miles in 4 weeks, exploring every state west of the Mississippi, tomorrow I get on a plane and head back to Oz.

It has been a fascinating time learning about your culture and exploring your country. You have many beautiful and interesting places, and the way the different regions of your country are so different only enhances the interest.

While I have enjoyed my time over here, I have 5 acres waiting for an observatory and the spectacular southern skies waiting. If anyone is interested in heading "down under" sometime to see the southern skies, PM me and I can send you my email. I will be able to access this site until May of next year. After that I will not be able to renew my membership as I will not have a credit card.

Play nice and clear skies to everyone.

Maurice

PS:- Good luck in the election....... I think you are going to need it!!!!! 8O grin

Hi Maurice:

Have a truly extraordinary retirement! It has been a lot of fun getting to know you here!

Trump jumps the shark

He is completely and utterly insane. The above statement is a criminal act. The secret service should round him up for questioning....

Dave

Hi Dave,

I agree with the others that this was a joke. Still:

(1) It was a joke in incredible poor taste.

(2) It plays right into the media's hands, since the media typically depicts 2nd Amendment supporters as crazy gun nuts, who are likely to be killers.

(3) If Trump were a competent candidate, he would understand #2 and avoid these kinds of gaffes, instead of stepping in it on a daily basis.

(4) Because of #2 Trump's joke undermines the cause of those who support the 2nd Amendment.

(5) The above statement is no criminal act, and to the extent the left tries to portray it as such, they reduce and deflect from the impact of the gaffe. It is almost like the "treason and sedition" crowd has ripped a page from the Republican's overreaction playbook.

Nothing From Hillary's Campaign Emails

Those hacked emails? So what...

Hi Rod The hacked emails are not nearly as explosive as the stuff that is being released from the FBI in dribs and drabs. Here is the part about the FBI/State quid pro quo. You might say that you don't believe this witness. Well, that's fine, but that is exactly what a grand jury should have been convened for - to sort through this evidence and assess the credibility of various witnesses.

"CO about to make CA look like Cayman Islands"

Russ Carroll said:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/post-obamacare-preview-in-colorado-1477091912

"Democrats are already looking beyond ObamaCare’s slow-motion failure, and Colorado is showing where many want to go next: Premiums across the state are set to rise 20.4% on average next year, and some have concluded that the solution is more central planning and taxation. Voters will decide on Nov. 8 whether to try the single-payer scheme that blew up in Vermont.

Amendment 69 would alter the state’s constitution to create a single-payer health system known as ColoradoCare. The idea is to replace premiums with tax dollars, and coverage for residents will allegedly include prescription drugs, hospitalization and more. Paying for this entitlement requires a cool $25 billion tax increase, which is about equal to the state’s $27 billion budget. Colorado would introduce a 10% payroll tax and also hit investment income, and that’s for starters. California would look like the Cayman Islands by tax comparison."

Don't worry Russ, 69 will be defeated soundly. It is trivial to get this kind of nonsense on the ballot. Except for the presidential election, the voters of CO are not fools.

Electoral College Question---

Posted By James Brown

David Cotterell said:

While watching the election returns the other night one of the commentators briefly mentioned the following:

"The Electors from some states are not compelled to vote as their state's citizens voted while in other states the electors are mandated to vote the way their state's majority voted. The election isn't actually final until Dec. 19 (?) when the Electors cast their ballots. Some electors could counter/ignore/flip their state's vote..." The commentator left that to hang in mid-air and it was not discussed again. I have since seen a Facebook 'campaign' to get some electors to change from Trump to Hillary...

So, is the above statement true? If so, in which states do the electors have the freedom to ignore their state's vote? Is there historical precedent for this actually happening?

Thanks,

Dave

Hi Dadve:

While technically true, "faithless electors" are exceptionally rare. There have only been a handful throughout history.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faithless_elector

Each state's electors are selected (in advance) by the winning party, so this Facebook campaign is a juvenile social media pipe dream

Election 2016: Exit Polls

Typical Hillary voter:

4. Urban
5. Jewish or unaffiliated
6. Most important issues: Foreign Policy, Economy
7. View on state of economy: Good or better
8. Outlook for the future: Good
9. Build the wall: Oppose
10. Most important candidate quality: Experience

Hi James:

When I look at the bar charts from the NYT exit polls, I draw a somewhat different conclusion. I see the typical Trump voter as a Republican and the typical Clinton voter as a Democrat. Many of the charts bear out the conclusion that people who are typically Republican voted for Trump, warts and all, and vice versa.

Trump did better with independents. That is important. Trump generated more enthusiasm, that was huge. But the entire focus of these campaigns on the other side's unfitness for the job because of temperament or entitlement did not seem to cause a whole lot of voter cross-over.

In the Midwest, voters are obviously hurting economically - certainly more than they are here in Colorado. Trump tapped into this angst, which was apparently overlooked by the Clinton camp (surprisingly since WJC saw it coming). Voter enthusiasm against the status quo in the Midwest tipped this election.

"Hail Trump" The Alt Right In Action

How bad does it have to get?
http://www.theatlantic.com/politics/archive/2016/11/richard-spencer-speech-npi/508379/

Hi Rod:

I didn't look at the link, I'll assume that it shows hateful white supremacists celebrating Trump. No doubt there are plenty, maybe several tens of thousands of actual white supremacists out there, and I bet Trump carried them.

Still; over 60 million voters cast a ballot for Trump. Just how many of this 60 million fellow citizens do you think had vile motivation for their vote? If that number is 60,000, it is only one in a thousand voters. Rather than focusing on the fringe whack jobs, maybe you ought to think about the motivation of your friends, relatives, and neighbors who might have had more reasonable and benign reasons for voting for Trump.
