Do we expect any 6" APO Chinese refractors?

Posted By Bill Barrett

It all started with the ED80 a few years ago, then came the 100ed...now there is the 120...can we expect to see a 150 anytime soon?

Declination circle on G11

Posted By Bill Barrett

I recently picked up about a G11. It has the Gemini system, but I much prefer to use setting circles. I was wondering how do I lock down the declination setting circle? It seems to rotate freely. The online manual notes there is a set screw between 0 and 10 degrees, but I have not been able to find it. Thank you, Bill

A logical approach to eyepieces?

Posted By Bill Barrett

I was wondering what would be a logical approach to putting together an eyepiece collection? I am strictly a visual observer, and I am now getting to the age where eye relief is important. Thank you, Bill

Does anybody make a Fluorite ca filter?

Posted By Bill Barrett

The chromacor was a sub aperture corrector to address chromatic aberration common in
refractors. It was very effective for visual use at eliminating the unfocused purple. It has been out of production for years.

Recently I have been wondering if the addition of a fluorite filter would deliver similar results, and if anyone has come out with a fluorite filter or an alternative to the standard minus violet filter. Thank you, Bill

baffled

Mike;
Those are great looking tubes, and are both of those astrophysics focusers? I also need to build a new tube for an old 4" F15. Could you tell us where you got your material for the tubes? Did you have the dewshields and the hubs machined or were they available over the counter? thank you, Bill

4" F15 Refractor Should I?

Posted By Bill Barrett

Thanks to all for the well considered input. My biggest concern ultimately is the quality of the image. It is very likely the advances in lens materials over the last 30+ years have mas made a project like this impractical.

RA tension adjustment on old Starfinder mount?

Posted By Bill Barrett

Jeff;

Thank you for the reply. That really helps. It has been so frustrating, not to have any tension on the ra axis and have to rebalance all the time. I'll work on it tonight. Bill

missing vendor

Posted By Bill Barrett

Mike;

Bradshaw machine in Snohomish, Washington machines brass tubes for a local shop. They do nice work. You might try them. If you can't find their number, I'll find it for you.

Did I see in a previous post you had a supplier for 7" od 1/8" wall tube? I could use some for a 6" F8 project. Could you post your source? Thank you, Bill Barrett

Nice Aurora Sunday Night!

Posted By Bill Barrett

Excellent aurora in Seattle, emanating at zenith and branching out in all directions. It was a nice surprise after coming home from the Sonics game.
