$140/mo

Posted By Mark Norby

I heard this number on the news this afternoon, regarding another involuntary expense to all wager earners. Starting in 2012, as I recall, this amount will be used for your future long-term care needs, such as a nursing home. $1500/yr. Some are saying as much as $2500/yr, in the fine print, but don't know that for a certainty. One can opt out, but then long-term care wouldn't get federal funds, as I understand it. So the lower-income wage earners that can't afford the monthly hit to their income won't get fed help later on-the very people that need it the most. Some safety net. Now that the bill has been signed, we can find out what's in it, all 2700 pages worth. Did I hear somewhere that this bill wouldn't raise people's taxes? Except for the rich, of course-those making over $200k/yr. Let's also not forget that we'll be required to buy an "approved" health care insurance policy, or face fines to be collected by the IRS.
Sometime back I asked the question: "Can a citizen in a free country be required to enter into a contract against his will?" Sounds like the answer is "yes", or that we no longer live in a free country. Hopefully these expenses/requirements get repealed, but I'm not optimistic about that.

northwest wyoming starbique

Posted By Mark Norby

I'm new to these forums, and stargazing, for that matter. I am planning on going to Missoula, Mt, this summer, and then down to Yellowstone Park for a while. What dates do you plan on for the starbique? I have a 5" refractor, 2 sons and my wife. Think there's room for us? We have a small 8Passenger bus converted to camper, just need access to water, and electricity occasionally. Thanks Mark. ps, you can e-mail me directly, if you want at [email protected] Thanks again

I saw a posting that you were concerned about dampness and humidity, etc. You can get a solar powered vent from a boat dealer, or from Boat US, or West Marine. I forget the price, but it is automatic, and no batteries to worry about when gone on vacation. Just a thought Mark

Finder scope for refractor

Posted By Mark Norby

Why not get a 80 or 90mm f/4 or f/5 'fractor from Apogeeinc and piggy back it? A 9x50 right angle finder runs $80=$90, and you could use illuminated reticle eyepieces, or amici diaganol, if you chose. My advice is free, and worth every penny. (don't know who said it first, but I like it)

Vatican Document on Feminism

Posted By Mark Norby

Don't confuse Catholicism with all of Christianity. There are many female clergy in the Methodist faith. I do agree that some militant feminists seem to want to erase differences between the sexes, and some people want to make homosexual union equal to marriage, but they are different, aren't they? btw, our position is that being homosexual isn't the sin, engaging in same-gender sexual activity is the sin. You don't have to agree.

Where are you at on this one.

Every day there's a plane that leaves area 51. Those on board create the crop circles using technology garnered from alien spacecraft that crashed on earth.

How about this one?

Posted By Mark Norby

The current issue of "Archeology", I think, debunks Bigfoot as a guy in an ape suit walking like Groucho Marx. Yeti? Don't know. Nessie? I recall someone admitting to faking the famous picture of Nessie. Alien abduction? Wouldn't "they" know our biology from these many years of study by now? Yeah, I know, they're curious, maybe not benificeint(spelling?) UFOs? UFO is an unidentified object, so yes, there are unidentiied flying objects. Bermuda Triangle. Lots of people get lost, doesn't mean Atlanteans took them. Maybe the Wraith.... Poltergeists and ghosts gets closer to Spiritual matters than you may want to discuss... My opinions are worth what you paid for them.

Re: It's In The Stars!

Does anyone recall the equation for gravity's affect on an object when the distance is doubled?
If Astrology can predict the future, or even today's events, why didn't ANYONE predict the events of 9/11? HOOEY. May as well examine the bowels of a goat.
The only affect of another astronomical object has on us is if it is nudged into a collision path.

im hooked, what next

I like my Orion Ultrascopics better than my friend's UO orthos. You might consider getting 15mm or so. Eye relief will start getting tight, and the fov is about the same as a plossl. Siebert Optical also makes some pretty good eyepieces in several price ranges. Check the reviews in Astromart and Cloudy Nights.
